Alaska residents can pick up a little piece of the state at the Alaska Department of Natural Resources’ Spring 2008 Alaska State Land Offering.
More than 220 surveyed parcels will be up for grabs in Southcentral, Northern and Southeast regions of Alaska, ranging from just under an acre to 37 acres. Minimum bids start at $3,800 and climb past $80,000. All parcels will be offered by a public sealed-bid auction.
A brochure, which includes descriptions of the parcels and bidding requirements, is available at DNR Public Information Offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau and at most libraries, Legislative Information Offices and other state and local agencies.
All land will be sold "as is" and "where is." Potential buyers will have until 5 p.m. on May 18 to submit a sealed bid.
Only Alaska residents may bid. While multiple parcel bidding is permissible, only one parcel per person will be awarded.
A public opening of the sealed bids will be held on June 4 at the DNR Public Information Office in Anchorage. Parcels not sold may then become available during an initial over-the-counter Lottery.
The lottery holds no parcel limit, and nonresidents can apply.
