Unalaska swimmers finish 7th in Soldotna
Adam Nguyen made sure everyone took notice of the Unalaska Raiders this past weekend at the Soldotna Swimming and Diving Meet. The UHS standout swam his way to a pair of silver medals and helped the Raiders finish seventh in the boys' final team standings.
Unalaska was among more than a dozen boys' and girls' teams competing in the meet, which was held Friday in Soldotna.
Nguyen blasted onto the scene with a pair of solid showings in his individual events. He finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.25 seconds, and was second in the 100-yard backstroke race with a mark of 58.68.
In addition to his two individual races, he also teamed with Jonathan Le, Amiel Fernandez and Kai Lloyd to help the Raiders place eighth in the 200-yard medley relay.
Fernandez also did well in the meet. He splashed his way to a pair of top-10 marks. He took eighth in the 100-yard butterfly and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle. Le was ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Fernandez and Le teamed with Lloyd and Johnny Khongsuk to post a 10th-place mark in the 200 freestyle relay.
Khongsuk did well in his individual races, too. He was ninth in the 500 freestyle and 11th in the 200 individual medley.
Sasha Rankin highlighted the Lady Raiders' efforts in the meet. She swam her way to a fourth-place mark in the girls' 100-yard breaststroke. She tacked on an 11th-place mark in the 200 individual medley.
Kiara Villamor was 11th in the 100-yard backstroke and 12th in the 200 individual medley races.
